The American Legion World Series is one of only four national youth baseball championships in the United States — and since 2011, it has called Shelby, North Carolina home permanently. Each August, eight regional champions from across the country compete at Veterans Field at Keeter Stadium in front of tens of thousands of fans, with semifinals and the championship game airing live on ESPNU.

This isn't a regional event that happens to draw a crowd. It's a nationally broadcast, community-anchored championship that generates measurable economic impact for Cleveland County and puts Shelby on the map for sports fans from coast to coast.
